How it's calculated
- Times per week = times per day × 7 (or the weekly number you enter).
- Money per week = cost each time × times per week. If you enter a cost per day, it's cost per day × 7.
- Time per week = minutes each time × times per week ÷ 60.
- A year is 52.18 weeks (365.25 days), a month is a twelfth of a year, and 5 and 10 years simply multiply the yearly total — prices are held constant, so no inflation is added.
- Equivalents divide the yearly total by a typical price; the investing line uses monthly compounding at the rate you choose.
Worked example
Say it costs $4 a day and happens 20 times a day, taking 2 minutes each time. That's $28 and 4.7 hr a week. Multiply by 52.18 weeks and you get $1,461 and 244 hr a year — about 10.1 full days. Over 10 years: $14,610.
Frequently asked questions
How much does vaping cost per year?
At $4 a day, vaping costs about $122 a month, $1,461 a year and $14,610 over 10 years. Your figure depends on the type of vape and how fast you get through it.
How do I work out my daily vaping cost?
Add up what you spend on vapes, pods, coils or e-liquid in a typical week and divide by 7. If a disposable lasts you two days, its daily cost is half the price.
Is vaping cheaper than smoking?
It can be, depending on what you use and how much — but the cost still adds up. Use this calculator and the smoking calculator with your own prices to compare.
How do I calculate the cost of a bad habit?
Multiply what it costs each time by how many times it happens in a week, then by 52.18 for a year. Do the same with the minutes it takes to see the time cost. This calculator does both and shows weekly, monthly, yearly, 5-year and 10-year totals.
Are the default numbers accurate?
They're typical example prices to get you started. Prices vary a lot by country, city and brand, so replace them with what you actually pay — the results update instantly.
